ibu Mata Angin
Peta are less commonly used in Indonesia, except in daerah parawista. Historically arah-arah were given orally, using ibu mata angin (utara, selatan, timur, barat), and landmarks as reference points.
Something to note when you are travelling in Indonesia, Indonesians always want to be very helpful, particularly in Java. So even if they don’t really know, they will always give you an answer to be “helpful”. So when you ask for directions, always ask 3 or more people, and consider the common factor between the answers before following their directions!
